Anton Parsons' exhibition Stonewall commands a spectacular and mighty presence in the gallery space. Utilizing materials such as marble, granite, travertine from Persia, and sandstone from Rajasthan, the artist has fabricated circular discs on (stainless) steel supports to create a diverse range of both free-standing and wall works. The faceting of the stainless allows stone to be placed at different angles, to achieve different rhythms and densities. The title-work Stonewall, for example, is heavily layered, with 52 rondels of pink travertine screwed broach or even hydrangea-like into its hidden support. Sequoia and Warp are more open structures, full of movement and playful change from different points of view.
Parsons is indebted to the Estate of the late John Edgar, for the gifting of much of the stone for this exhibition.
